Successful Wrap-up of The 2022 PTSC Hackathon “Pershing Techathon—Light a Spark”

2022/09/29 (四)

Pershing Technology Services recently held the 3rd Pershing Hackathon “Pershing Techathon—Light a Spark” creative competition, which was specially designed to give “Gen Z” innovators a platform to showcase their creativity. The Techathon also combined team collaboration with technological elements. Pershing invited Microsoft Taiwan and WebComm to participate in this event. In addition to rich awards such as bonuses and prizes, the winning teams will also have the opportunity to take part in PTSC training courses. The theme of this competition focused on “smart finance” and “smart service”. Smart finance emphasizes the innovative application of financial technology (FinTech). Currently, financial technology is not limited only to the provision of banks. The main focus of “smart finance” applies to the use of technology to provide sound financial services. These services are integrated into life and divided into two major areas: “artificial intelligence applications” and “big data applications.” They start from user needs, applying AI to optimize or improve existing service content. They can also use big data to analyze or predict problems to find effective improvement, management or decision-making solutions.

The third “2022 Pershing Techathon–Pershing Hackathon—Light a Spark!” hackathon competition attracted many young students to sign up. Provider/Provider

The scoring of this hackathon competition focused on the presentation of innovative ideas, rather than the presentation of content developed by traditional technologies and programs, of which innovative ideas account for 50% of the scores. Sean Chen, Pershing’s Chairman, said that during the competition, each contestant showed a fair and respectful attitude, so that everyone could practice good sportsmanship. The participating students came from different schools and departments, and many of them formed teams without knowing each other prior to the competition. The teams pooled their brain power and made quick connections with each other amidst the heat of the event. In addition to exciting new ideas, they also solved existing technological pain points and fully demonstrated an electrifying entrepreneurial spirit. Sean mentioned that the new and exciting ideas of this younger generation broke barriers with an unbridled spirit not relegated to simply writing new code. PTSC hopes to find potential new talent to add to its own internal teams, creating a win-win situation both for the organization and the participants. This competition invited two lecturers to give comments. Xu Jiyuan “Bird”, deputy general manager of PTSC, said that the future trend of banks is FinTech—a huge financial channel connected by various endpoints to provide services. These services are no longer limited to physical branches anymore. National Taipei Professor Chen Yingyi from the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Science and Technology analyzed the blockchain technology and the Fast ID Online (FIDO) identity authentication mechanism. The key element in common between the two is the establishment of a trust foundation.

The preliminary round of the Techathon was active with excitement and ideation. The 15 teams that entered the final came from 23 universities and 37 departments, not only information technology students, but also departments such as the Department of Business and the Department of Medicine. After the competition, the top three winners were announced. The gold award team was Fèng tí pèi Fengxijia “40 PAY – Cross-border Exchange Platform for Migrant Workers”. Currently, there are 750,000 foreign migrant workers in Taiwan. This team created a fair and transparent exchange transaction platform, “40 Pay,” designed to provide “third-party cross-border exchange” and “Information Forum in Taiwan” for foreign workers in Taiwan. “Intelligent Monitoring System”, frauds have been rampant in recent years, so this team’s product uses machine learning and big data analysis to monitor abnormal account transactions, and helps anti-money laundering department personnel to grasp the latest financial crimes. Tied for the Silver Reward were the two team’s “100 Million Voices” and “Food is Spoiling You.” They responded to the growing trend of pets gradually becoming an integral part of many families. In order to improve the quality of pet life, the teams developed an APP to record basic information such as pet diet records to help track pet allergic reactions.
